★★★★ BIO ★★★★
Bruno and Lauren started dancing together at the beginning of 2017 and found a strong connection and mutual understanding of the music from the start. This has lead to them developing the partnership into teaching at events around the U.K. Both Bruno and Lauren currently have their own classes in their home towns (Leeds and Darlington) with sights to progress this further. Together they trained with Lucia Nogueira to develop their technique and teaching skills through a detailed and organised course that Lucia provides around the globe.
Together they are teaching various levels of Kizomba/Semba/Tarraxinha from beginner through to advanced at a number of events/festivals/workshops. Since partnering up they have been noticed for the high standard and dynamic classes they deliver. They are working towards breaking down the stereotypes found within partner dances by reversing their roles of leader and follower which is one of the things that makes this partnership different and unique.
They find social dancing a big part of the learning experience and use the opportunity at events and festivals to engage with students so they can experience their style and passion for the dance.
A personal insight:
Bruno Matos, originally from Portugal, is currently based in Leeds and hosts his weekly classes in Leeds, Huddersfield & Kingston Upon Hull. Bruno has always been connected to Kizomba and was introduced to it from a young age by his Angolan father. It was only once he moved to Leeds that he threw himself into the dancing world and since then he has been hooked, Bruno is always trying to improve his dancing skills through workshops/festivals and socials and having developed an understanding of his personal style is now excited to share his passion & love for the dance & culture with others.
Lauren Rafferty trained as a professional dancer in Leeds, studying many different styles of dance. After graduating in 2011, Lauren moved back to Darlington where she started teaching dance in local primary schools and community groups. When she discovered Kizomba she fell in love, realising that her passion for dance lay here. She totally engrossed herself in the Kizomba world and could not get enough. She wants to spread her love of Kizomba to everyone and has already successfully set up classes in Darlington.
